To honor the legacy of Dilano van ‘t Hoff in motorsport, a special award has been introduced in his name within the Formula Regional European Championship (FRECA) Formula 3. This special trophy honors the driver who performs the most remarkable overtake of the season, recognizing skill, precision, strategic insight, and the resilience that were at the heart of Dilano’s racing spirit.
The initiative for this special award came from Adam Fitzgerald, who was involved in the tragic accident. Despite facing his own recovery after sustaining serious injuries, Adam took it upon himself to create and organize this tribute. He collaborated with Richard Fox on the design, incorporating a carbon flame, Dilano’s favorite material. The inlay features the number 17, his iconic racing number, making the trophy a heartfelt and personal tribute to his legacy.
Each year, the winner’s name will be engraved on the main trophy, permanently displayed at MP Motorsport, Dilano’s team. The winner will receive a smaller replica to keep. FRECA selects the three most remarkable overtakes of the season, after which fans determine the winner through a voting process on FRECA’s official Instagram.
In 2024, the inaugural Dilano van ‘t Hoff Memorial Trophy was awarded to Matteo De Palo for his exceptional overtaking ability. Congratulations, Matteo!
